It is believed that the dishwasher regularly cleans itself, but that is not usually true. The dishwashing process results in a buildup of bits of food, water minerals, and undissolved detergent. This may look unpleasant and leave an unfriendly odour alongside spots and film on the dinnerware, flatware, and glassware.
Moreover, if the food and grime keep on building up, then it may damage the filter and pump of your dishwasher. So if you don’t clean your dishwasher properly, it may not do an effective job.
Follow these great tips to help you clean your dishwasher the easy way.
1. Remove the left bits of food
Make sure you are cleaning the left bits of food like pasta, beans, etc after every cycle. Simply pull out the dishwasher rack and remove the leftover bits of food, and then remove them with a paper towel. This step will help eliminate bad odours.
2. Remove the door grime
Use either a damp sponge or a cloth and wipe any residue and spots present on the interior of the door, edges of the door, handle and dishwasher controls.
3. Remove the filter and clean it
Cleaning the filter is essential because if the filter is clean, then everything else will be clean.
The filter in the dishwasher is present below the bottom spray. You just have to unlock it, remove it and rinse it using hot water. Grab a toothbrush and scrub the plastic frame as well as mesh screen to remove grease and particles stuck in the narrow openings.
After you have cleaned the filter of the appliance put it back in its place.
If you don’t know where the filter of the machine is located, you should check the user manual that came with the machine.
4. Deep clean the dishwasher
It is very important to clean and remove the trapped food particles, detergent residue, and mineral buildup in the dishwasher.
You can go for the DIY option of using white vinegar, or you can use a dishwasher cleaning tablet.
If you are going for the DIY or homemade option, you will have to fill the glass measuring cup with 2 cups of distilled white vinegar and have to place on the top rack and have to run the normal cycle but without any dishes and detergent.
To clean it more thoroughly, you will have to use cleaning tablets. But before you use the cleaning tablets, you must read the instructions on the tablets first.
5. Polish the outside stainless steel surface of the dishwasher
Fingerprints left on the surface stainless steel appliance may make it dull and grimy. You can use stainless steel cleaners to make the door of your dishwasher nice and shiny.
The stainless steel cleaner will not only make your dishwasher shine but will also keep the dirt and smudge away. Make sure that you don’t use abrasive cleaners because they may scratch the exterior of the dishwasher.
Using the ways mentioned above will ensure an easy cleaning for your dishwashing appliance and make its durability last longer.
